[GĄSIOROWSKI Ryszard?] - My new life. Nowa Huta 1954[manuscript].
School notebook form. 21.3x14.8 cm, pp. 52 (of which 26 are unsigned). On the front cover, handwritten inscription: "Contest 'My New Life', Nowa Huta, 1954: Emblem: After the night came the day". The name of the author was not disclosed. The information in the text that the author won the title of Polish junior vice-champion in chess in 1952 allows us to attribute the authorship to Ryszard Gąsiorowski (1935-1998) - a chess and bridge player, later a long-time employee of the Lenin Steelworks, then also of the Katowice Steelworks. From reading the text presented here, we learn that the author, who came from Lodz, joined the Polish Service and left for Nowa Huta, which was under construction at the time. The momentum of the investment made a great impression on the young worker. He was assigned to a company unloading wagons. "The work was arduous and hard, we had to carry five or six grog bricks at a time from the wagon to the warehouse for eight hours. The bricks were heavy and rough, and after two days I had my hands blood-smeared." Numerous requests for gloves had no effect. Only a three-day strike by crippled jawans resulted in the company being supplied with gloves. There is considerable coverage of attempts to increase labor productivity and labor competition. The application of rationalization and reorganization ideas allowed the company to reach a level of 140% execution of the norm at first, then 180%, and finally 280%. "I saw that competition is a good thing after all [...]. I understood competition, its need and its role at work in raising a new socialist worker." An important step in the life of the Junak was to attend a vocational steelworker's school. Just as he had once become a labor foreman, he now enjoyed the title of learning foreman. "I want to be a metallurgist and I will be. I am needed by the Steelworks, they count on me," - he wrote. He became chairman of the ZMP class circle. He returned to his old passion - chess, competing in the colors of "Ognisko" Nowa Huta. Trying to obtain a first sports class, he promised: "I will [fight] for it as I fought for every brick". Covers slightly scuffed, taped tear to spine.
