FORSYTH Frederick - The Day of the Jackal. Translated by Stefan Wilkosz. Warsaw 1974, Czytelnik. 8, s. 460, [4]. Booklet, wraps.
Minor local yellowing of the wrapper, otherwise very good condition. First Polish edition of Forsyth's novel, originally published in 1971 ("The Day of the Jackal"), which became a worldwide bestseller and brought the author international recognition. The novel tells the story of the planned assassination of Charles de Gaulle. The film adaptation of the novel, directed by Fred Zinnemann in 1973 with Edward Fox in the title role, was also a great commercial success. The wrapper and cover were designed by Andrzej Krajewski.
"Forsyth's books belong to the historical-reconstructionist trend, whose main narrative principle is the accumulation of dry facts [...]. Forsyth's novels combine politics and detective fiction, the characters revolve among high political circles; the writer introduces authentic characters" ("Dictionary of Popular Literature," Wr. 1997, p. 116).
