Fontenelle (1657-1757) - French philosopher, writer, religious scholar and popularizer of science. Contains, among other things, the treatise "Entretiens sur la pluralitè des mondes" (in Polish it was published as "Conversations on the Plurality of Worlds"), in which he lectures on the theory of Copernicus and the philosophy of Descartes, and conducts a consideration of the possibility of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations. The text is illustrated with a fold-out copperplate showing the Copernican planetary system.
