Berlin 1914-1924: Gustav Hackendahl called Iron Gustav is a cab driver, harsh to himself and others. During the hard times of the First World War and already after its end, his family falls apart. As a result of inflation, Hackendahl loses all his savings, and his horse-drawn carriage can no longer withstand competition from the cars that are pushing it out of business. Undaunted by the adversity, he decides to fulfill his dream, drive his carriage to Paris and drive it triumphantly onto the Champs Elysees, which will become an international event.
