The exhibition was a presentation of several selected phenomena in Polish photography of the second half of the 1950s, described in the literature of the subject as avant-garde or neo-avant-garde. The works on display were mostly from the years 1955-60. 120 works by 7 outstanding artists (Zdzislaw Beksinski, Zbigniew Dlubak, Jerzy Lewczynski, Andrzej Pawlowski, Marek Piasecki, Bronislaw Schlabs and Stefan Wojnecki) were used as an example to present the variety of innovative explorations in the field of artistic photography of that period. These explorations included both - experimentation with photographic material, as well as the trend towards the analysis of the medium (precursor to the conceptualism of the 1960s), as well as inspirations from Surrealism and Italian Neorealism, which were very important in the art of that period.
