"Eritius Puteanus (Errijk de Putt, 1574-1646), professor of pronunciation at the "Lowan Athenaeum", founder of the association for educating youth in rhetoric, Palaestra Bonae Mentis, was one of the most prominent figures of 17th century Europe. Being a pupil and, in time, a successor of the famous Just Lipsius on the chair at the University of Leuven, he became known as a versatile scholar.
