"The Age of Innocence" is a book written by American writer Edith Wharton in 1920. It was her eighth novel written. It was initially published in four parts in Pictorial Review magazine. In 1921 it won the Pulitzer Prize in fiction, making the author the "First Lady of Literature." Edith Wharton's work dealt with the privileged classes of America, especially her hometown, and the fate of her fellow countrymen visiting Europe. She also wrote about New England farmers. She commented virulently on the different classes of American and European society, and took a penetrating look at changes in customs. She was familiar with the literary and political elite of her era and was a trendsetter in landscaping and interior design. She wrote very regularly. Dozens of books by her were written.
