DOCUMENT for conferring officer rank.
Two documents of conferral of military rank: second lieutenant in 1873 and lieutenant in 1875 (dimensions: 30.5 x 40 cm), addressed to James Melville Babington (1854 - 1936), British Army officer and cavalry leader, who became famous for his actions in the Second Boer War; one of the most respected British generals during WWI. Also includes a certificate of completion of a military signaling course, granting eligibility to act as an instructor in this field (dimensions: 20.5 x 18.7 cm).
All glued on cardboard backing. On the back pasted 4 photographs: 1 depicting Tay Bridge in Scotland in 1882; 2 photographs from Bechuan in 1885, showing officers and horses; and a photograph of the 19th Regiment of the Royal Hussars in 1882. Traces of staining and browning, certificate with creases, folded documents, handwritten, stamped.
