The first wider study of the Galician massacre made on the basis of memoirs and eyewitness accounts. The Galician Robbery, a peasant uprising in western Galicia in the second half of February and March 1846. The uprising was anti-sheikh and anti-slavery in nature. The author of the book, being a child, survived with his mother and siblings an attack on the manor house where they lived with their father. Aleksander Dembinski's father, who was absent, was murdered in a neighboring manor. The collection of accounts is preceded by introductory chapters, which describe the political background of the events, the characteristics of social groups: nobility, peasants, clergy. The study closes with a list of victims of the massacre, an index of places and names.
