Pius XII
Roma 1946 Editore K. Breiter. 8, f. 13, 12 illustrations unil. pp, folder broch.
Good condition, minor rubbing of page edges. Twelve phototype reproductions of drawings and miniatures by Kazimiera Dabrowska depicting Pope Pius XII. Each illustration on a separate sheet, covered with protective tissue paper. Kazimiera Dabrowska, one of the most outstanding Polish miniaturists, was born in Radom in 1890. In 1904-05 she studied at the Female Art School under Leokadia Lempicka, and then at the School of Painting and Drawing of Milosz Kotarbinski. The most important event in the artist's life became an exhibition at the Vatican's Palazzo della Cancelleria, in the Sala dei Cento Giorni - the artist presented there 100 miniatures and 75 drawings. The Polish and foreign press reported on this unprecedented fact, as it was the first time in the history of the Vatican that a lay person could show her works there. The exhibition, organized at the behest of Pius XII, was a great artistic event in Rome.
