Princess Izabela of Fleming Czartoryska (1746-1835), wife of Adam Kazimierz, was one of the most colorful figures of her era. After returning from Vienna, she settled in Pulawy. She regained the estate thanks to the intercession of Catherine II, which had been ruined by Russian troops in revenge for her support for Tadeusz Kosciuszko. The author, fascinated by new currents in the art of creating gardens, in cooperation with English gardener James Savage, decided to remodel her park, so far kept in the Italian-French style, into the English style. Work on the reconstruction of the park lasted from 1795; the duchess used her experience in this field to write this book, which is decorated with 28 engravings by the Viennese painter and engraver Jan Zacharias Frey, court painter to the Czartoryskis. The entire book closes with a "catalog of trees, shrubs, plants and flowers" with information on care. Traces of non. dampstaining and staining, non. loss of margin in corner of frontispiece (understamped), 1 copperplate missing after p. 68, oval stamps: "Gwalbert Pawlikowski", spine of binding with strong abrasions and non. Back of binding with strong abrasions and some losses, covers with abrasions (especially corners), sticker with contemporary portrait of I. Czartoryska. Czartoryska. rare .
