First edition. Czapski's book is both a document of Polish visual culture and an autobiography of painterly sensibility. According to the author, it is primarily a thinking about painting with a palette in hand. The Eye consists of texts and memories from a period of more than thirty years. It includes texts on Sutin, Derain, Bonnard, profiles of Waliszewski and many other contemporary painters, among others.
