Benoit Le Court (1494-1559) - lawyer, poet, bibliophile; he Latinized his name to "Benedictus Curtius"; associated with many scholars of his time; most volumes from his book collection are decorated with a coat of arms with three knurls stamped in silver. He published the offered work, a botanical treatise in 30 books, in which he included descriptions of forest plants from the best-known authors, as well as partly from his own observations, in 1560; the publisher was Jean de Tournes (1504-1564), a French printer and bookseller, founder of a long-established family printing business; from 1559 he was printer to the French king. The title page features the printer's emblem along with the motto: "What you do not wish to do to yourself, do not do to another." Contains sections on, among other things, growing trees, their diseases and treatment,harvesting and preserving fruit, nuts, pines, shrubs, and trees found in swamps and wetlands. Good condition, no, rubbing of binding, binding slightly loose, on pages in places no. traces of browning and staining, 2 pages missing (665/6 and 671/2). Very scarce.
