The monastery of St. Gallen is known for the flourishing of medieval spiritual culture that lasted there for centuries. Founded in the seventh century by the wandering monk Gallus, the hermitage developed from 719 into a monastery whose buildings were expanded during the Carolingian period, partly according to a plan drawn up around 820. Over the centuries from the ninth to the eleventh, St. Gallen became one of the most important Western European centers for the development of art and spiritual culture.
The niniejsxy richly illustrated album shows the ornate pages of the books produced at the abbey.
