Margins of first pages glued with strips of paper by bookbinder, small loss of lower margin of pp. 169, 309, stains in places (Nos. 33-35, 37-39, 47-48 with slightly larger traces of moisture), 1st title page partially colored. Overall good condition. At the beginning, a dedicatory entry from the epoch for Andrzej Boguslawski (possibly (1809-1878) - officer of the November Uprising, official of the Kingdom of Poland in 1834-1866). Bookstamp. A set of the first annual (Nos. 1-52) of a popular weekly, richly illustrated with woodcuts, published in 1834-1844, initially as a weekly, later as a monthly. Each issue contains several woodcuts. A typical popular science magazine with information mainly from the world in the following fields: astronomy (about a comet expected in 1835), architecture (Egyptian pyramids), painting (Hogarth's paintings), sculpture (Napoleon's monument in Paris), music (about music), customs of peoples (drunkenness in England, a wedding in China), travel (a trip to the North Pole), morality - practical life lessons (cheating harms the cheaters), parabolas (the sunflower and the wine grape), lives (Franklin, Columbus, Petrarch), physical news (about the magnetism of the Earth), natural phenomena (the effects of exterminating forests), agriculture (the new use of threshing machines), industry (mining in America), inventions (enlightenment with gas), variety (saving time in England, raising ducks in China). Few Polish subjects: Copernicus, Sarbiewski, salt mines in Wieliczka. Among the woodcuts: portraits of writers, artists, explorers, heights of the most prominent mountains, whaling, lace factory, Eskimo huts (!), Chinese compass, Chinese gymnastic arts, leaning towers in Bologna, St. Martin's Church in Cologne, fishing for chinchillas, Vesuvius, road under the Thames, steam ships.
