"Analysis" was created in the last years of Tadeusz Cieślewski-Syn's life, during the German occupation. It was first published as a typescript reproduced in 1944.
This is the picture of Cieślewski-Syn's graphic and journalistic work in his last years and work on the work, Tadeusz Leszner writes in the introduction:
In those final years of his mortal pilgrimage, Cieślewski had a special fondness for ex-libris. [...] He took an extraordinarily active part in the life of the underground , "Circle of Ex-libris Graphic Arts Enthusiasts" in Warsaw. [...] He listened vigilantly to the increased rhythm of Polish art in this field.
The fruit of this, among other things, was the work, "Aesthetic Analysis of Woodcut Ex-librises by Jarnuszkiewicz Jerzy," devoted to a critical assessment of the achievements in this field of the young graphic artist, who is, by his proper interests, a sculptor (incidentally, a sculptor of uncommon abilities). The fascinating talent of Jarnuszkiewicz-playwright stimulated the excellent xylographer to write an in-depth study of his work in the field of book-marking, which is, without exaggeration, a model of a great ex-librisological monograph. Cieślewski aptly and skilfully, objectively, sine ira et studio, without, after all, cutting short the vivid emotion that the young graphic artist's creations aroused in him, characterized Jarnuszkiewicz both as a xylographer and as an author of book marks. [...] Whoever carefully reads Cieślewski's study will admit, if he is a man of good will, its author's uncommon talent for research and discovery, maturity of judgment and subtlety of aesthetic analysis, based on comprehensive knowledge and deep artistic culture.
