Edward Chwalewik (1873-1956) was a Polish librarian, bibliophile and book historian. He co-founded the Society of Polish Bibliophiles (1921) and the Society of Exlibris Lovers (1924). He researched Polish literary collections in libraries, archives and museums, both at home and abroad. He recorded and described the book collections of institutions and private collections. He developed innovative research methods, analyzing ownership marks, which made it possible to reconstruct the history of books more accurately. His work became a model for later researchers of exlibrisology and book history in Poland.
