Przewodnik Katolicki (Catholic Guide) - Poland's oldest social-religious weekly newspaper, established on the initiative of Florian Stablewski, archbishop of Gniezno and Poznan. Since its inception, the weekly has been published by St. Wojciech's Printing House and Bookshop. It was published from January 17, 1895 to September 3, 1939, the publication of the weekly was resumed on December 8, 1956. At the time of its founding, "Przewodnik" was to combine its main mission - to reaffirm the faith of Catholics and inform about the life of the Church - with the struggle to maintain Polishness. To achieve this, it was supposed to unite all social strata and shape their socio-political consciousness through education and entertainment. It also included legal, health and child-rearing advice, as well as travel reports. The modern nature of the paper is evidenced by the insertion of advertisements and notices in the 19th century to reduce the cost of publishing the newspaper.
