"CAPTAIN ŻBIK" - A series of Polish comic books whose main character is Jan Żbik, captain of the Citizen's Militia. The comic was published in 1968-1982, by the "Sport and Tourism" publishing house. Fifty-three issues were published as part of the series. Many of the pieces we offer at auction are UNIQUE on the collector's market for the simple reason, the comic books were "read" by the youth of the time and few have survived to this day....
"We came to the conclusion that for the hero we intended to bring to life a captain would be the best service rank. This is already a very decent charge, and at the same time such an officer can still be young and already mature. (...) The original design we did not have. We decided to match the physiognomy of the most handsome officer. (...) On the other hand, Wildcat's personality is an amalgamation of the traits of many officers I knew and worked with," Krupka explains the circumstances of Wildcat's "birth" and goes on to say:
"We decided to create an unambiguously good character. In fact, a somewhat official character came out of it, and today I regret that we did not make him more ordinary. We very often wondered, for example, whether Wildcat should start a family or at least have a girlfriend"
