Brigid of Sweden (1303-1373) - Swedish Catholic nun, writer, theologian, founder of the Brigidine order, Franciscan tertian, saint of the Catholic Church and patron saint of Europe. Brigid was said to have experienced visions as a child. On one occasion, the Virgin Mary was to appear to her with a crown on her head. Another time, she was to see the crucifixion of Christ and his death on the cross. These two themes - fervent devotion to the Virgin Mary and meditations on Christ's passion - occupied her for the rest of her life. Olaus Magnus (1490-1557)-Swedish Roman Catholic clergyman, humanist and cartographer.
