Brigid of Sweden (1303-1373) - Swedish Catholic nun, writer, theologian, founder of the Brigidine order, Franciscan tertian, saint of the Catholic Church and patron saint of Europe. Brigid was said to have experienced visions as a child. On one occasion, the Virgin Mary was to appear to her with a crown on her head. These two themes - fervent devotion to the Virgin Mary and meditations on Christ's passion - occupied her for the rest of her life. The only city whose view was marked with a coat of arms was Gdansk, to which he dedicated the map, writing that he made it "thanks to the special help, safety and kindness experienced in your venerable city, of which I was a resident for some time."
