Jesuit Karol Antoniewicz became famous as a preacher and missionary, especially during the peasant riots of 1846, he fought drunkenness and initiated charitable actions. After the dispersal of the Galician Jesuits in 1848, he preached in Krakow, Podkarpacie, Silesia and finally Poznań. He organized a Jesuit outpost in Obra, of which he was the first superior. He also became famous as a poet and author of popular religious songs: Chwalcie łąki umajone and W krzyżu cierpienie.
