"Hr. Bernadotte, cousin of the Swedish king, Red Cross activist, one of the most popular figures in Swedish public life, left in February 1945 for Germany on a mysterious mission. Official communiqués announced that Count Bernadotte was to obtain from the highest German authorities the release of Norwegian and Danish prisoners of war, concentrated in camps within the Reich, and transport them to Sweden, where they were to be interned. In connection with this affair - or perhaps only on the pretext of it - he came into contact with leading figures of the Third Reich and became an intermediary in the negotiations for Germany's surrender. This book contains Bernadotte's famous conversation with Himmler in late April 1945, a few days before Germany's complete defeat. The conversation was loudly echoed in the press all over the world."
