[Bendowska Magdalena, Doktór Jan], The World Hidden in Books. Old Hebrew prints from the collection of the Jewish Historical Institute, published by the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute, Warsaw 2011, p. 140, dimensions 21 x 28 cm. Numerous color illustrations in the text. Publisher's cover. Very good condition.
The half-album book consists of two complementary parts. The first is an erudite and engaging dissertation by both authors, "Old Jewish Prints in the Republic and Europe", the second is a presentation of old prints from 1547-1796. Included is an introductory essay by Eleonora Bergman (director of the Jewish Historical Institute) about the libraries in Tłomackie: in the late 1930s, during the occupation (removal of resources to Berlin, destruction of the building), after the war (recovery) - and about the old prints in their possession.
