Marek Baterowicz still managed to publish his short stories "Trap under the Moon" ( Krakow, WL) during martial law, but when the Communist regime dissolved the Union of Polish Writers that same year, the old thoughts of emigration came to a head again. Since May 1985 ( after four years of trying to get a passport) Marek Baterowicz has been in the West ( Italy, France, Spain), and since August 1987 in Australia. He became a member of the Association of Polish Writers Abroad, and since 2000 of the Association of Polish Writers in the country. In Sydney, he published a volume entitled "Heart and Fist" ( PCA, 1987) including old poems rejected by the censors, poems from martial law and those already written in exile.
