Balthasar Behem's CODE "Codex picturatus Balthasaris Behem ".
Drawn up around 1505 on the initiative and at the expense of Balthasar Behem, a Krakow city notary. Contains copies of the privileges and statutes of the city of Cracow and the laws of the city guilds. The text consists of 372 pages, the first 247 written by Behem's hand, the rest were probably made by his successor in office. The work is decorated with 27 beautiful miniatures, 25 of them depicting artisans and merchants during their daily activities, the other 2 are the coat of arms of Krakow and a crucifixion scene. The original is in the collection of the Jagiellonian Library. Facsimile was published in 1988 by "Krajowa Agencja Wydawnicza", the binding is the work of the famous Cracow workshop "Starodruk".
This piece - full leather binding - very good condition. One clasp needs pasting.
