A work on the defense of Czestochowa by Father Augustine Kordecki (1603-1673), describes the siege of the monastery by the Swedish army between November 18 and December 26, 1655.In addition to military and diplomatic actions, Kordecki showed the convergence of the national struggle with the defense of religion. In the 19th century, the importance of the "New Gigantomachia" was raised by Adam Mickiewicz's enthusiastic speech in a course on Slavic literature.
