Roman History, the main work of the Greek historian Appian of Alexandria (b.95 - d.180), written towards the end of his life. It is not excluded that the impetus for writing the History was the celebration of the 900th anniversary of the founding of the city of Rome. Hence, it can be assumed that work on the work was completed even before 163 AD. The work is an important source for modern historiography (especially for the period between 167 and 68 BC). Appian's account is valuable, and the sources he used are reliable, which include the works of: Quintus Claudius Quadrigarius, Lucius Cassius Hemina, a Latin historian of the 2nd century BC, Caesar's diaries, Polybius' account, official documents of Octavian Augustus, and others. The work was published and annotated by Henry II Estienne (1531-1598), a publisher, writer and prominent Hellenist and philologist.
