ANTONIEWICZ Jan Bołoz - Grottger. With 403 illustrations. Lvov [1910]. Publishers of the Society of Teachers of Higher Schools in Lvov. 8, pp. [4], 583, [1], plates 32 [including 8 in color ]. Original cloth cover, upper trim in gilt. Science and Art, vol. 11.
Very good condition. At the beginning some underlining and annotations in pencil (often mischievous, e.g., next to the author's name appears the note "learned idyot"). Carefully published on good paper and lavishly illustrated (403 illustrations in all) monograph of the prematurely deceased artist who gained dominion over the Polish patriotic imagination and maintains it to this day. It was published as volume 11 of the prestigious "Science and Art" publishing series.
J. B. Antoniewicz (1858-1922) - Polish art historian and theoretician of Armenian origin, professor at Lviv and Jagiellonian Universities, member of the Academy of Skills.
