Condition: rubbing of covers, loss of spine, partial browning of covers, block cracked in two places, minor stains.
Pieces characteristics: on the inside of the front pastedown signature of ownership "A. Mickiewicz", below it an inscription by another hand: "24 Décembre 1836 - Paris. / Aleksander Jełowicki." On the title page of the first drama an oval ink stamp with the initials A. M. On the title page an illegible monogram signature.
Commentary: third part of a four-volume edition of Molière's works. Title page bicolored black and red. This volume contains 6 dramas:L'Avare (The Miser), George Dandin ou le Mari confondu (Gregory the Dyndal), Le Tartuffe ou l'Imposteur (Molière),Le Bourgeois gentilhomme (The Bourgeois Gentleman), Monsieur de Pourceaugnac (Monsieur de Pourceaugnac), and Les Fourberies de Scapin (The Raggedy of Skapen). Each drama is accompanied by a separate title page with the same publishing address as on the volume's title, and a single copperplate engraving illustrating the action of the play. Engravings unsigned.
