Albany William Fonblanque was a well-known English journalist. He was born in London as a descendant of a French Huguenot family. He attended school in Tonbridge, then the Royal Arsenal. Through health problems, he was forced to drop out of school. After recovering, he studied classical and political philosophy. At the age of 19, he began writing for newspapers. He attracted attention for his boldness and liberality and the superiority of his style. From 1820 to 1830, Fonblanque was on the editorial staff of The Times and Morning Chronicle, while also contributing to The Examiner and Westminster Review. He then became a political commentator for The Examiner weekly. In 1847, he accepted the position of statistical secretary of the Board of Trade.
