Format 18x22.5 cm, pp (152), hardback bookbinding, half cloth, 20th century binding. Good condition (minor stains on some pages).

The book presented here is a unique manuscript, dated by us to about 1860, which contains a variety of recipes and advice on a wide range of topics related to daily life and farming. The manuscript is a record of knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation, providing an invaluable source for those involved in cooking.

The contents of the book are extremely diverse, covering recipes not only for popular dishes of the time, but also practical advice on everyday life. It includes:


  1. Recipes: detailed instructions for preparing various cakes, including recipes for yeast cakes, sponge cakes, cream cakes and cakes. Recipes also include ways to make vodka and liqueurs, which were a common part of social gatherings in the 19th century.

  2. Bread preparation: instructions for making bread, both plain and with the addition of various herbs and spices, which were intended not only to improve the taste, but also to keep the baked goods fresh for longer.

  3. Homemade preserves: Recipes for preparing marinades and preserves, which were an essential part of food storage before the invention of modern storage methods.

  4. Practical tips: A section of the book is also devoted to everyday topics, such as how to make sugar, how to prepare starch, and tips on treating teeth, which were highly valued at a time when access to modern medicine was limited.

  5. Handicrafts: The recipes in the book also include bag dyeing and other techniques related to homemaking, which aimed to enrich everyday life with aesthetic and functional elements.


The book is written on handmade paper, which gives it a distinctive 19th-century look, and the handwritten text reflects care and attention to detail.
