First original edition of a treatise on dogmatic and moral theology based on the Council of Trent. The author, Alexandro Natali (1639-1724), a Dominican, was a doctor of sacred theology and professor of the Faculty of Theology in Paris. The work, first published in 1694, contained a total of 10 volumes; the subject of this sale is volume two. The work, with a unique superexlibrary, the coat of arms of France during the reign of Louis XIV (1638-1715), the "Sun King," is a valuable white raven. The coat of arms additionally framed "a la dentelle" denoting the Louvre palace in Paris. The old print has amini engraving, at the beginning of the text .
Period binding, full maroon maroquin leather in db condition with minimal rubbing and loss at corners; on both covers, gilt coat of arms of France in a border denoting the Louvre; also gilt border at edges; spine stamped and gilt with floral designs and title; interior condition db, with stains in places, but completely dry; all page edges are gilt; overall condition db.
