2. DANET Pierre, Radices, seu dictionarium linguae, latinae (...).
Paris 1677, André Pralard, XVIII p. + 487 p.+ 160 p.
First original edition of a Latin-French dictionary with explanations of the etymology of words and their meanings dedicated to the Dauphin, or heir to the throne. Author Father Pierre Danet (c. 1650-1709), abbot of St. Nicholas in Verdun, was the Dauphin's personal teacher from 1672. The work with asuperexlibris, the coat of arms of Louis XIV (1638-1715), the "Sun King," is a valuable white raven. The old-print has 2 mini engravings, one on the title page and the other with the Dauphin's coat of arms at the beginning of the dedication to him. Moreover, the 20th century provenance of the old-print is extremely valuable. It comes from the collection of Dr. Eugené Victor Olivier (1881-1964), a French fencer, a 1908 London Olympic medalist, but above all an outstanding expert in French heraldry and superexlibris. He published, together with Georges Hermal and Captain Robert de Roton, the famous 30-volume work "Manuel de l'amateur de reliures armoriées françaises" [OHR bibliographic abbreviation from the initials of the authors' names]. The item being sold in this huge collection bears the OHR signature pl. 2494, fig. n° 5. Rare.
