First original edition from the famous Elzeviriorum officina of acollection of letters by Hugo Grotius to well-known French personalities. The work contains a total of 188 letters. The author resided in France from 1621 to 1644 with some interruptions, and this was the most prolific period in his scholarly activity. It was then that he published his most famous treatise, "De iure belli ac pacis, " dedicated, incidentally, to King Louis XIII of France. At the beginning there is a detailed list of letters and an introduction to the reader. On the title page is a mini engraving with an allegorical scene which is the publisher's logo with the motto "Non solus". Text in Latin.
Binding from the first half of the twentieth century, half leather in bdb condition; spine with embossed and gilt title; interior in db condition without fault, numerous underlining in the text; on the front cover sticker of an antiquarian bookstore from Leipzig; on the title page handwritten ex-libris with the date 1642 [sic!]; overall db condition.
