174. CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA COTTON LOAN 1 VI 1863.

Paris 1 VI 1863, 22.5 x 45.5 cm with coupons 58 x 45.5 cm, coupons - yes 36/40, signature - pen, category - government bonds, denomination -200 Pounds Sterling/5000 Francs.

The famous 7% Confederate cotton bond from the U.S. Civil War period 1861-1865. The Southern states, when seceding, acted like an independent state including issuing their own bonds for the war effort with the Union. Their main goal was to raise funds with their European partners, the cotton buyers of the South - England and France. Decorative motifs with a vignette depicting a female figure with the Confederate flag against the sea sitting on piles of cotton. The second largest denomination of the issue is huge anyway - a two-year salary of a good teacher. On the right side in the upper margin in pencil "66" - the collector's object number. Rare!
