Sieben Bücher von denen Thaten Carl Gustavs Königs in Schweden.

Mit Vortrefflichen Kupfern ausgezieret und mit nothigen Registern versehen aus dem Lateinischen ins Hoch-teutsche uebersetz von S. R. Nuernberg 1697. in Verlegung Christoph Riegels. Gedruckt mit Knorzischen Schrifften. (36.5 x 24 cm.), k. [4], p. 734, k. [33], p. 24, frontispiece, 12 portraits on separate plate in copperplate, 115 copperplate spreads. (including multiple) on separate plate, initials and vignettes in copperplate in text, period perg. binding.
(Estr. T. 25.) The work describes in detail the wars of the Swedes against Poland and Denmark from 1654 to 1660. The text illustrated according to drawings made by Erik Dahlberg, engineer and quartermaster general, accompanying the Swedish troops. Engravings made by French, Swedish, Dutch engravers, among others: Blesendorff, Boulanger, Cochin, Cordier, W. Swidde, F. de Lapointe and others. Many engravings were dedicated to Poland; Panorama of Cracow, Warsaw, scenes of battles at Warsaw, Torun, Malbork, plans of cities and fortresses: Gdansk, Sandomierz, Lowicz, Brzeg, Piotrkow. Particularly noteworthy is the beautiful 4.5 m long panorama of Stockholm, reflected from 13 copper plates, with magnificent staffage. All illustrations are of high documentary and artistic value. The rich relay of the engravings is valuable material for the study of construction, art of war, costuming of the Baroque era. Few traces of dampstaining, soiling and browning, on 2 pages non. margin loss without damage to content. Text pages, as well as copperplate plates preserved in good or very good condition, only the longest copperplate (funeral procession of Carl Gustav) with tears, non. fraying and wrinkling. Period parchment binding with scuffs and soiling, on back cover no, loss of parchment in lower corner. Stamps: "From the collection of Jan Sas Zubrzycki", numerical notation on the frontispiece. On the facing page exlibris: "Jacob Friedemann Graf und Herr von Werthern" (1739-1806), imperial count, diplomat and high government official of the Electorate of Saxony. A beautiful, complete and rare work .
