MONTESCIUS (1689-1755) - French philosopher, jurist, freethinker and writer.
On the Spirit of Rights (French: De l'esprit des lois) - a philosophical treatise by Monteskius, first published in Geneva in 1748[1]. It is one of the fundamental works of the French Enlightenment, and the postulate of the tri-partite government contained in it is the basis of the political order of most modern democratic states.
This work, considered the most important in the philosopher's oeuvre, is the culmination of his scientific work and the sum of his life experiences.
Due to his progressive loss of sight, the content of the treatise was dictated to secretaries.
