Sample print of the reverse side for an early communist era 20 zloty banknote featuring Jan Matejko on the obverse.
The item has so far only been noted in the Lucow Collection under the number 1606, as one of the versions of the reverse side. The R10 rarity grade means that it is likely that only one piece of each version is known.
In the late 1950s and 1960s, numerous competitions were held for the design of new types of coins and banknotes. In 1956, the NBP entrusted the design of a new series of banknotes to Ryszard Kleczewski, a well-known designer of interwar stamps, who decided to depict great Poles and the buildings associated with them on the banknotes. The artist designed the denominations of 20,50,100 and 500 zlotys. In the end, these designs did not live to see realization, and unitary proofs made their way into the collectors' market.
The presented design for the reverse of the 20 zloty uses the image of the Cloth Hall of Krakow.
The design was made on stiff, cardboard paper.
No breaks or folds through the field.
Minor calluses in the top margin.
A true Unique!
