November Uprising, Souvenir Box with 1831 coins

add Your note
Lot description Show orginal version

A very rare set consisting of an "1831 Commemorative" box and a set of November Uprising coin denominations. Without the banknote, which is listed separately in this auction, in the paper money section. A great asset of the set is the nice states of the coins:

  • Ducat 1831, variety with a dot in front of the torch, st.2/2+. Very nice, unbent; slightly rubbed on obverse, but clearly lustrous, with a beautiful fine gold patina.
  • 5 zl 1831, st.2. Strong, dark patina. Minor scratches on the obverse, to the left of the dials. Very good, sharp, uncirculated relief. Under the patina, a mint surface glow shines through.
  • 2 zl 1831, st.2+/1-. A coin on which we do not notice traces of circulation. Natural, without rubbing or damage. With a natural, celadon color, but at the same time with a strong, blackish tarnish on the surface, and which lowers the grade to 2+, as it is not known what exactly the surface looks like under it, or how it will look after it is washed off. Overall a very nice piece.
  • 10 gr 1931 st.2/2+. Slightly circulated relief. Naturally celadon surface, no damage, with black tarnish, but nice, natural.
  • 3 gr 1831, st.~2-. Coin varnished, possibly washed before varnishing. Variety with straight eagle paws.

Box in visually very nice state of preservation. Externally without major damage or deformation, only without the hook. Preserved all the ribbons from the coins (rare), only the ribbons from the bill are missing. Velvet retained red in the indentations under the coins (except the gold one), otherwise naturally faded. The faded indentation on the ducat is due to the fact that, as a gold (valuable) coin, it was removed from the box and stored separately (now put back in). The white cover material in good condition, slightly fraying at the edges, but not in need of restoration.

All coming from family heirlooms, most likely first offered on the collector's market.
