add Your note
Lot description
Circular cupro-nickel medal with scroll loop and inscribed scroll-decorated ribbon suspension bar; the face with the Minar-e-Pakistan, Lahore centrally, circumscribed above in Urdu and dated to either side, stylised laurel leaves below; the reverse bearing an inscription in Urdu; on correct probably replaced ribbon. The medal was instituted in 1990 to mark the 50th anniversary of the adoption of a resolution by the All-India Muslim League in Lahore in 1940 demanding a state of their own. Less than seven years later, the new independent state of Pakistan was declared. In 1960 leaders of the Muslim League determined to erect a memorial at Lahore to commemorate the resolution. The result was the Minar-e-Pakistan in Iqbal (formerly Minto) Park. The memorial was completed in March 1968. Condition I.
