add Your note
Lot description
Five-pointed silver and silver-gilt rayed star with loop and ring for neck ribbon suspension; the face with a silver-gilt radiant sun with a human face imposed centrally, crossed silver-gilt kukri below; the reverse plain; diameter 59.57mm (2.35 inches); on original Nepalese-style full neck ribbon with hook and eye fastenings. The Order was instituted in 1895 (1952 B.S.) by King Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah Dev but suspended the following year. It was reinstituted on 7 September 1932 (23 Bhadra 1989 B.S.) by King Tribhuban Bir Bikram Shah Dev. It was awarded to recognise outstanding service to Nepal and could be awarded to both Nepalese and foreigners. Following political and insurrectionist turmoil, Nepal became a Republic in June 2008 and the Order is no longer awarded. A good example of a rare order. Condition II.
