Lot description
Estonia Medal (1937) for Merit in the Fire Service. Circular silver medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a fireman’s helmet imposed centrally on crossed fire axes within a circular laurel wreath; the reverse inscribed ‘TEENETE EEST’ (for distinguished service). The award was instituted in 1923 for the Fire Service of the newly-independent nation of Estonia, the silver medal being awarded for five years’ diligent service. The Service took on an increasing number of civil defence tasks and in 1924 came under the command of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Silver. Weight approx: 17.51g. Diameter: 31x27 mm.
