Battle of Poltava - armed clash that took place on July 8, 1709 during the Great Northern War, fought at Poltava in the Left Bank Ukraine between the troops of Swedish King Charles XII and the Russian army of Tsar Peter the Great. As a result of the battle, the Swedish army was defeated.
