NBTHK certified Hozon grade sword along with an exclusive frame. The blade has a highly detailed signature on both sides. It reads: "Biyō Osafune-jū Yokoyama Sukekane, Tomonari 58th generation, second year of the Meiji era." This can be translated as: a blacksmith from Osafune, Mr. Yokoyama Sukekane, 58th in his family line using the surname Tomonari; while the second year of the Meiji era is 1869. So here we have very detailed information confirmed by the NBTHK certificate. The blade is kept in a magnolia wood transition frame (shira saya). It has a classic shinogi zukuri type construction, typical soria curvature and a compact chu kissaki type hilt. The blade has no bohi, has a beautiful decorative hamon choi ni gunome and a beautifully visible hada steel layer cupping drawing. The habaki ferrule is gilded and decorated with serrations. The blade has a perfectly preserved Japanese cut with no defects; the state of preservation is very good. The frame made for this sword is perfectly matched with it and probably dates from the Edo period. The tsuba is iron, round, openwork, with a dragon motif, with gilding on the scales and a gold ring (fukurin) applied to the edge. All other metal parts are made of shakudo - a blackened alloy of copper and a small amount of gold of about 4%-10%, prized for its deep, dark color. Fuchi and kashira with a mountain landscape motif. Menuki in the form of a dragon wrapped around the sword. In addition, the braid was intricately braided with high quality white silk thread, in the style of kiodai murasaki jabara maki on natural stingray skin (gawa itself). The sword's scabbard was made of magnolia wood and covered with black lacquer with natural mother-of-pearl brocade embedded in it. The finishings of the saya were made of buffalo horn, and the whole thing is girded with a simple cotton white sageo.
