Woodcuts - samurai triptych

The samurai triptych we present here is actually an illustration of one of the scenes from a kabuki theater play (specifically, Soga dochu sugoroku), telling the story of the famous vendetta of Igagoe kataki-uchi no zu.

The author of this composition is Utagawa Kuniyoshi - the same one who is also the author of the Bijin-Tokaido series. It was published by Ibasen during the Edo period around 1847, and it is this edition that we are pleased to present in this auction item. The format of each of the three woodcuts is 35.4cm x 24.4cm , the size of the framed whole is 45cm x 86.8cm
