Set No. 2: Shozoshikari, Funa Benkei, Kani Yamabushi, Higaki. The offered woodcuts are from Kōgyo's "Pictures from the Nō Theater" (Nōgaku zue) series, the most sought-after by collectors of Kōgyo's works. It was published in five volumes between 1897 and 1902. This magnificent series depicts famous nō and kyōgen plays. It is beautifully drawn, with fine detail in fabrics and facial expressions, and faithfully brings these unforgettable plays to life. Kōgyo's incredible attention to detail wonderfully captures the lavish fabrics of the costumes, hand-carved masks and intricately crafted props. Many of the striking prints feature luxurious embellishments such as glittering mica, gold, silver, embossed textures and soft shading. A great choice for the collector interested in quintessential traditional Japanese art.
