A set of three traditional handmade hagoita, or palettes, for hanetsuki, a Japanese badminton-like game. These palettes depict kabuki theater actors in female roles. Such palettes, like other handicrafts, were often created as decorative mementos commemorating famous performances or popular roles in kabuki art. Each of the palettes is made in a three-dimensional technique using high-quality silk fabrics and dyes. The details are made with extreme precision, making them works of collectible art.
The two smaller palettes are housed in an elegant wooden display case for safe storage. In Japan, such sets are a popular New Year's gift, symbolizing good luck and protection from evil spirits.
Display case dimensions: 20 x 22.7 x 5 cm
Dimensions of the larger hagoita: width at base 23 cm, width at handle 14 cm, length including handle 61 cm
