2. figure of a wandering monk with a basket on his head - an exceptionally detailed doll. The figure is inspired by the Japanese tradition of monks known as komusō, belonging to the Fuke sect of Zen Buddhism, which existed during the Edo period (1603-1868). Around the figure's neck is a plaque with an inscription containing two characters: 明 (míng) - "bright" or "light", and 贈 (zèng) - "gift" or "gift". The whole can be interpreted as "gift of brightness" or "gift of light," which may refer to the symbolic meaning of light as wisdom, hope or spiritual guidance. The body and sleeves of this doll are made of unbarked, varnished wood, and the belt to which the string with the water bucket is tied was created from bark.

4 Samurai Doll. This doll depicts the famous warrior Date Masamune(1567-1636), one of the most recognizable daimyō (feudal lords) of Japan during the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. The doll reflects traditional samurai armor, including this particular kabuto with a crescent moon, paying homage to the history and legend of this figure.
