A high-grade naginata in a resting frame (shirasaya). Signed: Musashi no Kami Fujiwara Kiyosada, with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon certificate of authenticity dated to the Kanbun period (circa 1660). The signature is authentic and the nakago has not been shortened or modified in any way, however, it appears that there were at least several generations of blacksmiths active in the early Edo period who signed their work in this way. This naginata is a high-end product, it has the original Japanese cut, with a beautifully visible drawing of the cupping of the layers of steel (hada type mokume - a pattern resembling the grain of wood), there is also a visible line of hart (hamon) in the form of small, irregular ko-midare waves. The blade has a beautiful, classic shape inherent in spar weapons of this type, with a characteristic curve, widening at the end. The naginata is excellently preserved with only a few delaminations of the kizu and a few small corrosion spots, and is a typical example of this type of weapon. Dimensions:

Mune-machi (thickness of the back of the blade at the root):0.7cm
