[KING OF POLAND]. Color reproduction of the image of the Polish monarch in tournament armor from the Marshal's Roll of the Golden Fleece created circa 1434-1435, made in 1860.
Color lithograph on ark. 39x31.2 cm. Under the image the imprint "XV century. The King of Poland (Le Roi de Pollainne) chases at the ostrich. From the book collection of the Arsenal in Paris." The original was included in a French manuscript from the 15th century. "Grand Armorial équestre de la Toison d'or" kept in the Paris Arsenal. The Polish title of the work is: The Golden Fleece Coat of Arms, the Golden Fleece Coat of Arms or the Marshal's Coat of Arms. The manuscript, comprising 167 pages, is one of the most important foreign sources of Polish medieval heraldry. It was created in 1425-1466, the Polish part was compiled in 1434-1435. The sheet presented here was printed in a Poznan lithograph by M. Jaroczynski, according to T. Kowalski ("Publishing activity of the Kornik Library until 1925"), in 600 pieces. Tucked-in top edge tears, traces of dampstaining. Reproduction of the engraving is found on the liner notes and case of "Empireum" by W. Lysiak. Infrequent.
